Mathematics
Math phobia is real! And the best way to combat it is to teach each student in the way he or she naturally learns. To accomplish this, we use a flexible combination of Saxon, Miquan, math manipulatives, and teacher-led instruction to balance left brain and right brain learning styles. Basically, we have fun with math!

English Language Arts
Have you ever struggled to know what to write? Where or how to get started? Been bested by the terror of the blank page?
Here at TwoPlusTwo we start with IEW, Fix-it, and a blend of spelling options to create a custom, well-rounded base for our English Language Arts instruction. This base is then modified to each student’s needs and ability level, effectively both meeting them where they are and challenging them to grow.
-
Science
Science should be fun and hands-on and, occasionally, even messy! We love to combine science with art, engineering, and real life experience.
This year we have focused on astronomy, animal science, and gardening. We are even designing and building a planter box!
-
Social Studies
History doesn’t have to be just dates and names of “old dead people.” It can be compelling, alive, and a lot of fun too!
We love to teach history through projects, art, reading, and games.
-
Physical Education
We take frequent “brain breaks” to workout, stretch, dance, and breathe. If the day is sunny, we often walk to a local park to play on the playground or kick a ball around. Sometimes we even bring Nimue and learn about dog training!

And lots more!
*Not all children learn the same way or at the same pace, so at TwoPlusTwo Schoolhouse we use an eclectic approach to formal learning materials. We will never be tied to any one curriculum provider, and no school district will mandate what we must use to teach your child.
All students work daily on reading, writing, and math skills, but personal needs may require one child to use a math program by one publisher, while another student uses a different program. The same may hold true with language skills practice. Lessons developed on the spot as the need arises. A variety of materials, readily available, allows teacher and student to work together to develop an effective learning strategy for each child.
